Unique & Traditional Yusheng Options at Tanamera Coffee for Lunar New Year

How intriguing – Pecel Yusheng ($45.80+) is Tanamera Coffee’s spin on lunar new year yusheng, which has a variety of veggie noodles, fried tofu (which we forgot to put in frame for the picture ๐Ÿ˜‚), hard boiled eggs, peanut crackers & smoked salmon. Definitely getting some good fibre & nutrients in with carrots, red & white cabbage, radish, turnip, cucumber & capsicum here.

Pecel Yusheng (imagine the fried tofu is also in frame…)

With an Indonesian-style peanut sauce as the dressing, this reminded me of gado-gado in salad form that you can toss & shout auspicious sayings while doing so.

I found this unique & quite deliciousโ€ฆ Petition to put this permanently on the menu as an option, please! They actually already have this on the regular menu as Pecel ($11.80+), but it comes with veggie sticks instead of thin veggies noodles.

I loved the oodles of spirulized noodles, although great care must be taken when apportioning them as they are really long strandsโ€ฆ. But I guess that symbolizes mucho longevity ้•ฟๅ‘ฝ็™พๅฒ am I right?? ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿป

Traditional Yusheng

Tanamera Coffee also offers the Traditional Yusheng ($45.80+) option – it is what youโ€™d expect it to be, & I appreciate that this dish isnโ€™t as sweet as some other yushengs Iโ€™ve had.

Special shout-out to the copious amounts of crackers ้ป„้‡‘ๆปกๅœฐ, which I believe kids would loveโ€ฆ & perhaps adults too (adults are essentially just very big kids, right?). My family always adds an extra packet of crackers to our yusheng for the kids each year ๐Ÿ˜Š

A 3-day advance order must be placed for all yusheng orders; last day to do so is CNY Day 1 ๅˆไธ€ 22nd Jan 2023 (for it to be ready on the 25th). If you purchase 2 yusheng platters (Pecel or Traditional yusheng), you can get them for a special promo price of $88+ for a pair.

Thanks Burpple for the invite & Nana from Tanamera Coffee for the hospitality! ๐Ÿ’•

A Cheerful Pasta Dish from handBELLO

handBELLO is running a 20% off promotion during P2HA right now, & online orders are usually ready in an hour. I received a call 1 min after I submitted it online to confirm my pickup timing, which I appreciated because I was able to eat this while still hot upon collection ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

La Nonna’s (U.P. $22.00 nett) is a cheerful dish with a refreshing zesty lemon twang & spicy fun from the chilli flakes in every bite. The casarecce was cooked al dente, & I enjoyed the crunchy texture (& healthiness haha) that the broccolini added.. However, the Kurobuta pork sausage was overwhelmingly salty & overpowered the other flavours each time it was in my bite.

Nonetheless, still quite keen to check out the other pasta dishes that #handbellosg has to offer. I’ve got my eye on the Fun-Guy & Pink Vodka ๐Ÿ˜

Sarnies Promo Codes for Coffee Beans and Food

Sarnies’ coffee beans are going at an awesome 1-for-1 ’til 1st June 2020! Simply walk in to their store along Telok Ayer street to purchase, or order online with the promo code WENEEDCOFFEE.

Coffee beans & a nice note from Sarnies

I got the Meerkat blend, described as: whiffs of sweetness when freshly ground; a chocolate & nutty aroma, followed by a smooth lingering toasty aftertaste. Bought a bag for me, & a bag to give away (since I can’t finish 2 bags that quickly). You can opt for various grind sizes: Whole bean/espresso/filter/french press.

There was a bit of communication breakdown regarding what I wanted – I walked in asking for a coarse grind, & they kindly ground the beans on the spot for me ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป But I realized when I reached home that they’d given me an espresso grind.

It’s not easy to communicate & confirm details through a mask, I guess.. So next time I think I’ll write my order down or place it online for self collection. The benefit of walking in-store is that you get Shopback GO cashback, so that’s my preference ๐Ÿ˜

Besides selling coffee beans, Sarnies also sells breakfast/brunch/lunch grub! With the promo code HELLO10, you get a nice 10% off your online order. I placed mine a day in advance & paid up using PayPal after details were WhatsApped to me. Other payment options: iBanking/PayNow. Whatever method you use, payment must be done before your order is confirmed.

Yummy Quinoa Salad

Their Quinoa Salad ($15.50 nett) looks like health, tastes like DELICIOUS health. You’ve got feta, olives, pomegranate, pistachios – tossed in a bed of spinach & fluffy quinoa with cumin dressing. My mum & I enjoyed this, & we would order this again.

Sarnies’ Brunch Wrap Set – so good

My favourite item from Sarnies’ menu was the Brunch Wrap Set ($13.50 nett) – only available online on weekends & public holidays for brunch. My wrap of choice was the Breakfast Wrap (U.P. $9.50 nett), which is stuffed with eggs, roasted tomatoes & mushrooms.

The description alone reads like a deliciously good idea; biting into it convinced me this was a GREAT idea. Despite a 20-minute drive home, it was still warm, yet not soggy. The eggs were fluffy, mushrooms juicy & earthy, & acidity & slight char of the tomatoes gave life to this wrap. I shared it with my parents, & they were impressed.

The set comes with a drink of choice – any coffee/tea/kombucha. I had a Flat White (U.P. $5 nett), & I honestly don’t need to say anything about their coffee ‘cos I’ve gushed about it so much already. Consistently tasty, strong, & this is why I keep coming back.

Sarnies stash, mm mm yeahhh

Hopscotch – Unique Cocktails & 1-for-1 Mains with Burpple Beyond

I remember the days where Hopscotch was a cosy bar inside the Red Dot Traffic Building, whipping up a good variety novelty cocktails. They haven’t deviated from this specialty, but the vibes here now are quite different in the hipster/artsy enclave of Gillman Barracks.

Walking to Hopscotch (don’t park illegally like these cars!)

They still keep things interesting, changing their menu up once in a while. They’re on their 5th menu at the moment, with Singapore or Asian themed cocktails.

My cocktail of choice: Kungfu Hustle (U.P. $22++/HH $15++), which has a base of Chrysanthemum infused scotch. It’s exactly what I look for in a cocktail: Strong, & not sweet. A harmonious balance of floral rose honey, fragrant Gunpowder Tea (็ ่Œถ), with a hint of heat from young ginger. Also, check out the bottle it’s served in – soooo aesthetic.

Kungfu Hustle Cocktail

Happy Hour is 5:30 – 8:30PM daily, & yes I could get HH prices on my cocktail ($15++) despite redeeming a Burpple Beyond deal on the same bill. I always make sure I check, & never to assume. I appreciate it when restaurants are flexible like that, so thank you Hopscotch!

Shelves of games you can play – fun idea

The Ribeye Steak ($26++) is part of the Burpple Beyond 1-for-1 menu options. 220g of New Zealand Grass-fed Black Angus Ribeye. It’s a simple hunk of steak, with not much else to the dish. It lies on a light swoosh of Purple Potato Mash that wasn’t very carby, & has a small side of sauteed baby spinach for you to get your veggies & fibre in.

I opted for my usual medium rare, but was afraid that at this thickness it’d be a little tough. But it wasn’t! It was also seasoned pretty well; I didn’t need to dip it in the veal jus served on the side – though that was tasty too. (My dad lapped it up quite eagerly…)

Hopscotch’s Chilli Lobster Tagliatelle ($28++) pays homage to local flavours with a chilli sauce of local spices & a lobster-based stock. The chewy homemade tagliatelle pasta was firm to the bite, & the half a Boston lobster it comes with is fairly meaty. The heat isn’t unbearable, in all quite pleasantly tingly on the tongue with a subtle sweetness.

Chilli Lobster Tagliatelle

Being a pasta & seafood lover, I would order this again. Exceptionally pleased that I got this at “half price” thanks to Burpple Beyond’s 1-for-1 main deals, too!

50% Off at Ash and Elm

There’s still time to take advantage of Chope’s deal at Ash & Elm! For the month of August (2019), all items on their “From the Pan” menu are at 50% off of you book via Chope & use the code CE8AE. Valid for dinner only, & other Terms & Conditions apply – check the Chope app for more details.

It was my first time here & I was impressed by the ambiance. It’s a nice place to go on a date… Then again, I expect no less, it being located inside the lovely InterContinental Singapore.

I had the Hand-cut Wagyu Beef Burger ($39++) with the patty done medium rare; chowed down on it & enjoyed it from start to finish. It wasn’t soggy at the end, & the bun remained quite fluffy & soft. The caramelised onions gave this a balanced sweetness, & in all this is a well-rounded burger.

Served with a side of thick-cut fries which were okay (average lah), & a side of coleslaw which was too acidic.. I didn’t enjoy that nor finish it. & I rarely don’t finish food. The star of the show, rightfully, is the burger!

I nibbled on my friend’s Black Cod Fillet ร€ La Plancha ($48++) out of curiosity, & of course politeness cos she asked I wanted to ๐Ÿ˜‚ The texture of the fish was on point, but it was a little too salty for both our liking. I would’ve expected more from it at this price point, especially since its one of the Chef’s Specialties. But the saffron pearl couscous was lovely.

Let’s just say I’m glad I dined here with a 50% off discount thanks to Chope. I’d say give this one a miss, unless they can fix the saltiness. Because the texture is awesome, as a nicely done cod should be.

Sautรฉed Mushrooms ($10++) weren’t eligible for the half-off discount, but this was a great add on. Loved how juicy these were!

Lastly (though served at the start not end of one’s meal), this isn’t going to be a deal breaker for most diners.. But their bread here isn’t fabulous. I usually wipe the bread bowls clean, but not this time. Perhaps it’s just not to my liking – I like full thiccc carby bread, not so much flatbread crackers. Probably boils down to personal preference.
