Evan’s Kitch – Humble Corner, Extensive Menu

Evan’s Kitch is a humble eatery in City Gate mall with an impressively large menu. Took me some time to sift through the many pages & take in all the options – pretty varied, from snacks to brunch fare, main courses, desserts, as well as tea & other drinks.

I’d say the food here is its strength – both in variety & flavours. Choose from brunchy toast dishes (loaded with a plethora of ingredients) & main courses packed with delicious flavour to fill your belly..

.. & speaking of belly, here’s a picture of one of their signature dishes – Spaghetti Pork Stew Stock with Japanese Char Siew Pork Belly ($24++) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Spaghetti Pork Stew Stock with Japanese Char Siew Pork Belly

They are also a Burpple Beyond merchant; a Set for 2 here goes for $55, which gives you 2x mains + 2x drinks. & if you use my promo code EMIL005, you get 30% off Burpple Beyond ๐Ÿ˜€

My favourite dish was the North Malaysia Slow Cooked Coconut Beef Stew ($24++), also another signature dish of theirs. This heavyweight winner was a rich, creamy rendang with tenderly stewed cubes of beef. The level of heat in this spicy stew wasn’t overpowering & that was how the flavours truly shine.

North Malaysia Slow Cooked Coconut Beef Stew

You might think the egg is out of place in this one – but nah, I quite liked it. It added to the creamyness of the already-lemak rendang in a pleasant way.

I reached for second helpings of the sourdough toast to dip into the stew. Just too good. I can imagine this going super well with rice (which I believe is an option available) – comfort food after a long, arduous day in the office…. Mmmm.

Asian BBQ Pulled Pork Toast

Brunch fare here is more than just toast & things. We tried 2 options:
๐Ÿ”ธ Umami Mentaiko Smoked Salmon Toast ($21++)
๐Ÿ”ธ Asian BBQ Pulled Pork Toast ($17++)

I favoured the smoked salmon one over the pulled pork – as I’m not a fan of pulled pork in general. I also felt the creaminess of & cabbage slaw was at loggerheads with the acidity of the BBQ flavours & citrus sauce. However, it’s something unique for sure – so if you’re adventurous, I’d say give it a shot.

Umami Mentaiko Smoked Salmon Toast

Teeming with housemade japanese mentaiko & tobiko, the Umami Mentaiko Smoked Salmon Toast is where Chef Evan goes all out with his creativity here.. There’s even chicken floss in this salmon dish!? Hand to heart, not sure how I feel about that..

.. But overall, the flavours came together fairly well. Umami came through from the salmon roe, brineyness from the smoked salmon itself, nicely poached nuyolk eggs & a sprinkle of scallions & furikake – on a crispy, toasted sliced of sourdough.

Seasonal Fresh Truffles Parmesan Cheese Fries

If you’re seeking out the lighter side of life & just looking for munchies, there are options here too. We nibbled through these dishes on the small bites menu:
๐Ÿ”ธ Asian Chili Chicken Karaage ($12++)
๐Ÿ”ธ Seasonal Fresh Truffles Parmesan Cheese Fries ($16++)

Asian Chili Chicken Karaage

Had some teas (both cold brewed & hot ones) while we made a toast to good health:
๐Ÿ”ธ Amint Tea ($6.50++)
๐Ÿ”ธ Empire Citrus Tea ($7.50++)

Cold Brew Teas – Amint Tea & Empire Citrus Tea

& ended off with some sweet treats:
๐Ÿ”ธ Aburi Pandan Coconut Cheese Cake ($12++)
๐Ÿ”ธ Strawberries Bread Pudding & Vanilla Ice Cream ($11++)

Aburi Pandan Coconut Cheese Cake

Found My Happy Ending in Pizza

I discovered Happy Ending Pizza on Burpple Beyond during Phase 2 of Circuit Breaker, when they were a hole-in-the-wall space in Orchard Towers serving only takeouts.

It was a cool October night; I’d ordered 2 pizza sets from them 2 hours in advance. Stood by the roadside eating my piping hot pizza, & I was impressed. The Mushroom Madness & Green Hulk I ordered were delicious, but I couldn’t finish everything – so I kept the leftovers in fridge & heated them up the next day.

Standing outside Orchard Towers gobbling pizzas

Guess what? The 2nd-day pizza still tasted good. & that, my friends, was the beginning of my happy ending. They’ve since relocated to City Gate, where you can enjoy their pizzas with a dine-in experience.

Janan, the founder of Happy Ending Pizza’s shared his pizza philosophy (pizzalosophy?) & the genesis of his brand. Essentially, he believes that the entire pizza should be enjoyed, with nothing left behind.. Including the crust. & the crust is what makes a happy ending (to your meal) (what were you thinking, you filthy animals).

New dine-in space at City Gate, neon lights aplenty

You’ll believe it when you try it for yourself. Even the non-crust-lovers at the table didn’t have a crumb left on their plates. The pizzas come with sauces as well, which is unique as much as it seems strange. I’m a carb-loving monster that could eat these fluffy crusts on their own, but if you need that extra flavour, go ahead & dip your crust into the sauce for a flavour explosion in your mouth.

As a hardcore fungi & fun guy lover, Mad About Mushrooms ($27) was actually my favourite of the night. A simple savoury pizza topped with 3 different types of mushrooms, gooey stretchy cheese, & drizzles of fragrant truffle oil. The earthiness of the mushrooms are comforting to me, as much as the chewy pizza base is. If you’re looking for a reliable/traditional pizza option to fall back on, you won’t go wrong with this one.

Mad About Mushrooms

Should you be on the hunt for something more quirky, give the Holy Crab! ($28) a shot. They actually use real crab meat here – plump, juicy, succulent pieces. It’s slathered with their special chilli crab sauce which is also served on the side as an excellent crust dip. I liked how this isn’t crazy spicy, & that the flavours stay quite true to what you’d expect of a chilli crab inspired pizza. Definitely a winner in my books.

Holy Crab! with dipping sauce

If you’re in the mood for more heat, Spicy Babe ($28) might be for you.. This one is for the mala lovers. The toppings are fairly simple – beef, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella & parmesan cheese. The pizza base is mala-infused, but the real heat comes from the sichuan chilli slathered all over the toppings. It packs a decent punch, while still remaining quite remaining palatable.

The Goodburger – Food Truck Serving Impossibleโ„ข Burgers in Marina Bay

I run the MBS loop once in a while, & I’ve noticed this black & orange food truck fairly often on my evening runs. Naturally, I was very excited when Burpple‘s invitation to taste their burgers came in!

You can’t miss this black & orange food truck

Fun Fact: Not all Impossibleโ„ข burgers are the same. The “base” Impossibleโ„ข meat is the same, but each eatery has control over what they mix in with it to create their dishes. Fortunately, the ones I’ve tried so far are delicious & had great texture, so I had high hopes for The Goodburger‘s burgers.

The Goodburger’s Menu

All burgers come with a side of shoestring fries, which are my favourite kind. They were served hot, crispy, & not too oily. I enjoyed them so much that I couldn’t stop. I even went to the next table to steal more fries (sorry not sorry).

An additional side of Truffle Fries cost $12 – while fragrant, I wasn’t a fan of the oilyness, so I’d stick to the regular bomb diggity fries.

The Goodburger’s Impossibleโ„ข Burgers with Fries

Started off with The Classic ($16) burger – upon first bite, I noticed how fluffy & soft the burger buns were. Then my teeth sank into the juicy meat patty – great mouthfeel. As I chewed thoughtfully, I liked how the flavours came together in my mouth. The cheese, the special sauce, the tangy pickles.

The Classic with the Default Single Patty

Then we tried the same burger with an extra patty ($6). IT IS WORTH IT. Spend that money for a more balanced meat-to-bun ratio; you won’t regret it ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป

The Classic Double Patty FTW

One Night in Bangkok ($20) honestly did not remind me much of Bangkok or Thai flavours, but it was still delicious & unique. The complexity of the flavours are quite mind-boggling. A little bit of heat from the chilli, & a powerful but not offensive combination of fragrant spices. We had a field day trying to pinpoint what “aromatic Thai-inspired flavours” they actually are. But their lips are sealed, so we’ll never know…

One Night in Bangkok

The Black Tie ($18) was my favourite burger of the night. It’s touted as kid-friendly with its more subtle flavours. I mean, think about the other 2 burgers: Classic has tangy pickles, & One Night in Bangkok has spices & chilli.

Subtle doesn’t mean boring, though. I love me some veggies in my burger. Rocket is one of my favourites so I loved that inclusion. The truffle aioli could’ve been a bit stronger but I’m not too bothered by it. It’s a winner in my books.

The Black Tie

I personally haven’t tried this, but the burgers apparently reheat well. They don’t get soggy even though they retain their moisture. Update when I dabao one home & reheat it ๐Ÿ˜‰

You can find The Goodburger at these locations on regular days, but do check their Instagram/Facebook for the latest updates:
โ€ข Lunch @ The Promontory (Tue – Fri, 12 – 3PM)
โ€ข Dinner @ Bayfront Link (Tue – Sun, 5 – 9PM); that’s next to Marina Bay Sands, near where the light show/Black Tap is.

Le Coq’s Meaty Skewers, Delectable Appetizers, Fun Pastas & Tasty Drinks

An impressively extensive menu at Le Coq – from appetizers to yakitori skewers, main courses (1-for-1 with Burpple Beyond) & pastas, & a rockin’ happy hour too. Brace yourself for a lengthy reviewโ€ฆ!

Hard to believe that their Fresh Oysters are only $2.50++ a pop. These New Zealand babies are creamy & decadent. Have them your way – with a squeeze of lemon or a dash of tabasco sauce. Or without anything at all; yes, they are that fresh. & at $16++ for a half dozen, $30++ for a dozen, that’s pretty dang affordable for the good stuff.

Fresh Oysters

Uni on Toast ($15++ for 3) got me all hot & bothered. Firstly, look at the size of that hunky sea urchin. Secondly, that bread is actually a bed I want to sleep on. Pillowy soft, yet slightly crispy on the outside so it doesn’t get soggy. Loved the textures & flavours of this one. I was left dreaming about this for days.

Uni (Sea Urchin) on Toast

Folks who want to take the heat up a notch will enjoy the Mala Chicken ($10++). It isn’t too wild, but it certainly has the numbness & spiciness that one seeks in Mala. I’m not a Mala expert, nor do I eat spicy food regularly. But I found myself picking slices from this silky smooth appetizer to pop into my mouth for that shiok feeling.

Mala Chicken Appetizer

The California Maki Dip with Crisps ($12++) was surprisingly popular; I attribute that to how refreshing & clean it is. It’s essentially a deconstructed California maki roll. Sounds simple, tastes great. The crabmeat used is fresh & flavourful, tossed together with avocado, mayonnaise & crunchy fish roe. IMHO, though, what makes this super addictive is the thin rice paper crisps on the side. Use them to scoop up the dip & comfortably crunch away. That’s pretty dang unique to me.

California Maki Dip with Crisps

Le Coq is a Burpple Beyond partner – so you can get 1-for-1 lunch or dinner mains here. However, they also have a fairly large menu that you can order from. Perfect for the office crowd, their drinks menu includes beer, wine, hard liquor & house cocktails. Swipe to see some of their cocktail concoctions that we sipped on through the night!

Their Happy Hour runs daily from 5 – 9PM, giving you a single glass of Grant’s Triple Wood Blended Scotch Whiskey or Hendrick’s Gin for $X at X PM, where X = 5, 6 or 7. At 8pm, it’s $10 a glass which is still okay, but the earlier the better fo’ sho. Also, Ladies Night is every Wednesday. #justsayin

Hello, G&T

& what better way to pair your evening drink with some skewers to munch on. Good variety of options here, with the Wagyu Beef ($6.80++) is my favourite. Soft & tender, you can taste the natural juices & flavours of the beef. The fattiness absolutely melts in your mouthโ€ฆ Very shiok.

Wagyu Beef Skewers

The Cartilage ($2.80++) was interesting – nice & crunchy, a texture that I was intrigued by & appreciated. Something I haven’t had before, actually. But it was unfortunately too heavily salted with the combination & heavy-handedness of both sea salt & togarashi. Gave feedback about this & they took it into account. I would hope they’ve fixed this since then. It’s always nice to speak to chefs/owners/staff that are open to feedback.

Cartilage Skewers

If the price of the Wagyu Beef is too premium for you, consider ordering the Chicken Thigh ($2.80++) or Sweetpork ($2.80++); they too are hella juicy ๐Ÿ˜ My preference of the two is the sweetpork as it has a sauce of Thai spices & honey, & is a pleasantly tender sweet one to indulge in.

Chicken Thigh & Sweetpork Skewers

The pastas here look simple, but are good. Both are very different, so take your pick based on your taste/preference/mood.

The Cold Truffle Somen with Hotate & Caviar ($16++) was such a delight to slurp at the end of our mealโ€ฆ Not just because it’s cold & smooth. The light truffle flavour proved to be sooo refreshing on the palate. Very welcomed after an evening of varied specialty cocktails, taste explosion appetizers & crazy flavourful skewers.

The cold slices of scallop were of a nice thickness to lovingly sandwich between your tongue & the roof of your mouthโ€ฆ Before comfortably sinking your teeth into them, thereafter letting out a breathy “ahhh.” ๐Ÿ˜‚

Cold Truffle Somen with Hotate & Caviar

The Mushroom Aglio Olio ($14++), on the other hand, is strikingly different as it is a warm capellini dish. A good vegetarian-friendly option, I wasn’t too bothered that this dish doesn’t have meat or seafood in it.

Most importantly, dang that flavour. It punches you right in the face! Chilli padi BAM. Finely chopped garlic BOOM. Earthy mushrooms YAS.

Beach-side Brunch & Lunch at Trapizza

Trapizza is located right by Siloso Beach in Sentosa. Admittedly quite the journey to get here, I persevered because I can’t say no to a good breakfast & also Italian food. If you love alfresco dining, this is the place for you. If not, there’s still a spot for you here – seek refuge in their air-conditioned indoor dining area!

Al Fresco Dining Area

I reckon it’d be perfect outdoors with the cool temperatures lately (of course, provided it isn’t raining cats & dogs). I arrived a Sweaty Betty though, as this was pre-Singaporean-winter days. Quenched my thirst with a bottle of Organic Sparkling Passionfruit & Orange Juice ($12++). Lightly flavoured & slightly fizzy, this did the job. Don’t be a dumb dumb like me & shake the bottle in a disoriented state, though. It IS, after all… Sparkling ๐Ÿ˜‚

Organic Sparkling Passionfruit & Orange Juice

[BREAKFAST MENU]
We dove right into the breakfast items from Trapizza’s “Hot from the Pan” menu, starting off with the Wagyu Minute Steak & Eggs ($32++). I don’t eat beef for breakfast regularly, so this was new to me.

I certainly enjoyed it, though ๐Ÿ˜ Perfectly poached eggs with runny yolks, & tender slides of beef. The hearty ratatouille with lightly toasted bread on the side tied all the flavours together quite well.

Wagyu Minute Steak & Eggs

I can imagine waltzing here from the nearby Rasa Sentosa Hotel to have a relaxing breakfast by Siloso beach. Don’t come here too late, though – breakfast hours are for a short window only, 9-11AM on weekends!

If poached eggs aren’t your thing, try the Italian Sausage Breakfast Platter ($26++). You don’t just get sausage with this, you also get bacon. The scrambled eggs are cooked fluffy & slightly runny.. & I just realized you can’t see them in this photo, lol. But that just shows how much food you’re getting, quite the bang for your buck.

Love carbs? You will enjoy the chunky oven-roasted potatoes with a pleasant bite to them. It’s great how you get a good variety of carbs, meat & vegetables in this one.

Italian Sausage Breakfast Platter

Should you be looking for something lighter on the palate, try the Organic Homemade Mango Granola ($12++) from the Healthy Selection of the menu.

The sweetness of the mangoes contrasted well with the sourness of the yogurt, & the granola added crunch with every bite. I quite liked everything about this.. It was so addictive. Something you can really keep eating & before you know it, you’ve finished the whole thing.

Organic Homemade Mango Granola

[LUNCH MENU]
Trapizza’s pizza menu is extensive, which means there’s bound to be something for everyone. Each pizza is handcrafted & wood-fired, & it’s on a thin-crust base that makes it easy to eat. I’m not a fan of crunchy-thin pizza bases; thankfully this was just the right thickness for me (that’s what she said).

Got my hands grubby with the Pizza Siciliana ($28++), which has a sauce that is tomato-based. They have some cream sauce pizza options as well, which I would be keen to try next time.

I surprisingly enjoyed this pizza despite not being big on salami or sausages. We’re talking about chunks of traditional Sicilian pork sausage – which, like the salami, weren’t too salty for my liking. The vegetables added variety in terms of textures & tastes too: Roasted capsicums, onions, baby spinach.. A yummy dish great for sharing.

Pizza Siciliana

The Risotto di Mare ($29++) is a match made in heaven. Each grain of arborio rice was cooked al dente in a rich lobster bisque, & the plethora of seafood is commendable: Mussels, clams, prawns. My favourite was the prawn as it was super juicy, even at the end of my meal when you’d think it’d be cold & hard? Nope. Shiok ’til the end.

This IS a very rich dish that tastes like the ocean (in a good way), so it may not be for everyone. But it’s a clear winner in my books. The awesome juicy AF tomatoes make an appearance here too. Such a perfect dish that I would order again in a heartbeat.

Risotto di Mare

[DESSERTS]
There’s always room for dessert, right? Check out their homemade Tiramisu ($12++) with a cute squidgy of espresso. It squirts nicely in the middle & spreads out, so those who love coffee can dig in there, & those who want less of it can tuck in by the side.

This is a perfectly light & fluffy tiramisu, with the taste of coffee & liqueur not overwhelming on the palate. Despite it being light, I can’t imagine finishing this on my own, so I was glad to have friends to share this with. I mean, this IS a pretty sizeable jar… You’re getting real value for money here.

Tiramisu

For those who aren’t about the creamy life, try the Italian Torta Di Limone ($13++), a lemon tart with strawberry ice cream. In theory this sounds like it’d be hella sour – but no! It was actually quite a balanced dessert.

The lemon flavour was slightly tart (as in, sour) indeed, but the slight sweetness of the tart base & strawberry ice cream made it more pleasant. I recommend having a bit of each on your fork/spoon each mouthful.

For those who work in the area, Tsuruhashi Fugetsu’s affordable weekday lunch specials at $16.80++ are worth checking out. From Mon – Fri, 11:30 – 14:30hrs, choose from a different special of the day, all of which are centered around yakisoba (fried egg noodles):

  • Mon: Spicy Shoyu Yakisoba
  • Tue: Mentai Mayo Shio Yakisoba (pictured)
  • Wed: Omelette Yakisoba
  • Thu: Negi Mayo Shio Yakisoba
  • Fri: Cheese Yakisoba

All specials come with rice, teriyaki chicken, & miso soup… Dang y’all be so full after that, rollin’ back to work.

Their Modanyaki ($10.80++ onwards) is their take on a modern okonomiyaki – featuring savoury pancakes with a twist. You get the crispness of fresh cabbage, the chewyness of yakisoba, & flavours of various meat/seafood within.

Modanyaki – A Work of Art

This was fried on both sides before my very eyes, timed to perfection as how the Japanese take pride in their craft. A generous amount of cabbage goes into the modanyaki; the fibre helps to make this dish less oily, which I certainly value.

Fat Belly’s Tasting Menu – 6 Courses of Delish

I still remember my first trip to Fat Belly, before Burpple Beyond even existed. Fond memories, & glad to be back here again. They still have their regular menu, but the Tasting Menu ($80++) is something new.

You get 6* courses in this tasting menu, & if you’re a Burpple Beyond member you can swipe to redeem the 1-for-1 deal on this here. The Consommรฉ & Starter Duo were served together, so I consider this as 1 course on its own.

Scallion oil was drizzled over the Consommรฉ, which is made from clarified beef bone broth. Delicious & comforting, it was a good way to warm my tummy by waking it up gently.

The Starter Duo was a savoury tart & a financier. I preferred the former; the tart base crumbled nicely in my mouth with the softness of the truffle mascarpone. & the air dried beef, aged for 24 months, added a nice saltiness to it. The financier was a bit dry, its saving grace was really the foie gras mousse & duck fat to give it flavour & moisture. But I’m still not really a fan.

The Short Ribs were served with a Potato Pavรฉ; both were easy to cut through, I enjoyed these cute cubes together very much. In fact, the greedy devil in me wished the cubes were bigger.

I appreciated the thinly sliced layers of potato that gave the Pavรฉ good texture, & the little bit of Crรจme Fraรฎche balanced it out fairly well.

The meat was juicy & tender – & to be honest, I didn’t need the smoked sea salt flakes, as it was flavourful enough on its own already. I did dip it in the chimmichurri on occasion just to switch it up, but it was mighty fine on its own.

The Char Siew is one dish I’d kick the habit for – that is, my habit of always peeling fat away from my food. Nicely charred, the beef rib fingers were a little bit sweet & pretty dang orgasmic with the fats melting slowly in your mouth.

Served on a bed of wilted kale that does not have the characteristic bitterness of kale that most don’t enjoy. In fact, it was slightly crisp & I polished the whole plate of it clean!

Fat Belly’s Bikini was served quite quickly after the Char Siew – but don’t be mistaken, these are actually separate courses. I can’t decide what the best part of this dish was – the cheese (which you can see), or the bak kwa (which is hidden but is sizeably thicccc).

I actually don’t like bak kwa, but I loved this. Maybe because it’s wagyu beef. Maybe because it wasn’t dry or tough. Maybe because it was tasty. Probably all of the above. Enveloped by the melty emmental cheese, & sandwiched with 2 slices of crispy bread. I’ve probably just had pretty nasty bak kwa all my life. I’m glad this is one of the good ones!

We waited a while for the Tri Tip Wagyu to be served. The timing in between courses was quite inconsistent, but it might not matter to you if you’re dining with someone you can make good conversation with.

Tri Tip Wagyu. Hot damn.

Just look at that beauty. AusKobe F1 Wagyu Marble Score 4-5. If none of that matters to you, just know that this was hunky juicy tasty. The smoked king oyster mushrooms were also juicy, but had an unusual tangyness to them which raised an eyebrow or two.

I will preface this that it isn’t the best steak I’ve ever had. But I was fairly happy at the end. It paired nicely with the pomme puree – super creamy mashed potatoes, & the fragrance of the sprinkle of burnt shallots on top.

The last dish in this tasting menu – the Sweet. I was worried this would actually be too sweet, but my fears were unfounded. I surprisingly enjoyed it! It wasn’t too sweet. The pistachio mousse was smooth & light; the 2 little cherry cubes & 2 meringues on the side provide good variety between sour & sweet that you can alternate between.

The Guild is For Foodies and Beer Lovers

I’ve always wanted to visit The Guild, having heard so much about their food as much as their drinks. This place is a collaboration between Hong Kongโ€™s Young Master Brewery & Chef Vinny Lauria – so the fine balance of food & tasty beverages shouldn’t come as a surprise, really.

Entrance to The Guild

I mildly panicked when I learned that a new menu was being rolled out, but my fears were alleviated as I learnt that the hot favourites were being kept on the menu. Phew!

Chef Alton Huang working his magic

Our night unfolded in magnificent chronology – starting off with some Small Plates. Their In house Smoked Local Sea Bass ($13++) was impressive even to a non-fish-lover like myself. The skin was crispy – & y’all know I hate skin, but I ate this & enjoyed it! The fish meat itself was smokey indeed, but not in an off-putting way. That’s the Lychee Wood talking, & it pairs well with the home-made laksa pesto drizzle.

This beauty comes on a delightful salad of fennel, fresh green apple & herbs tossed in a tangy Young Master Brewery Vinaigrette. An intense yes accessible dish.

In house Smoked Local Sea Bass – an item from The Guild’s Small Plates menu

General Tsoโ€™s Frog Legs ($16++) is one of the hot favourites at The Guild. While frog dishes aren’t too uncommon in Singapore, having them as an appetizer is quite unique! Frog meat tastes like chicken to some (myself included), & I envisioned this to be like some sort of elevated chicken wing dish.

I wasn’t disappointed – each of the meaty frog legs is deep-fried & slathered with a generous coat of homemade sauce. The harmonious blend of orange, ginger & soy is great, & lays a good base for the chilli which packs a PUNCH! If you can’t handle spice at all, this isn’t for you. Very shiok to wash it down with a nice cold beer… Of which The Guild has plenty, by the way.

General Tsoโ€™s Frog Legs – like chicken but better

The Brawn Terrine ($13++) exemplifies what The Guild calls “nose to tail eating”. Sustainability & minimising food waste is admirable; this dish is made using pig’s head (which supposedly contains a high level of collagen!). Brined for 6 days & thereafter braised for another 6 hours, this is what gives the meat that meltingly tender texture.

Brawn Terrine – “nose to tail eating”

Understandably, some may be squeamish at the thought of eating pig’s head. I guess this isn’t for everyone, but it was memorable for me. I particularly liked its uniqueness, & also the flavours – robust, meaty, & served with pickled vegetables that cuts through that flavour, on top of crispy charred bread.

Pig’s head ain’t that bad…

The Guild’s Mac Nโ€™ Cheese ($21++) is LEGENDARY – for its crazy intense flavour, but also how picture-perfect it is. Just look at that house-cured egg yolk in the middle; it’s pure liquid gold. Mixed in with the rich AF cheddar sauce, this is possibly the most heavenly Mac & Cheese I’ve ever had.

Consider this fair warning, though – this is crazy creamy, I doubt anyone could comfortably finish this on their own. Not even a Bui Bui like me! Best shared amongst friends over good conversation.

Legen-dairy Mac N’ Cheese

The Salisbury Rubbed Hanger Steak ($37++) met with oohs & aahs as it was served. 250 grams of chunky hunky, this is one dish that I DON’T WANT TO SHARE because damn it’s good & you can never have enough beef ๐Ÿ˜‚

I could honestly eat this on its own, but the roasted garlic aioli & laksa pesto are great for those who want added flavour & sauciness.

250g of Salisbury Rubbed Hanger Steak

The Guild’s vegetables menu is quite cool too. Egg(plant)ception ($18++) is a mind-boggling dish of eggplants cooked in 5 different ways: Marinated with Balsamic Vinegar, Breaded & deep-fried, Pickled, Smoky Purรฉe, & Butter Roasted. My favourite is the butter roasted one ๐Ÿ˜‰

An eggplant & an eggplant & an eggplant… 5 times over

The Grilled Spicy Cabbage ($14++) is another one for the spicy lovers. Lovingly charred, the acidity of the the tomato vinaigrette was delicious, & the spiciness very welcomed & refreshing. Topped off with a motherload of scallions for that added crunch – as if the cabbage itself weren’t crunchy enough already. Good way to get your veggies & fibre in!

Grilled Spicy Cabbage

In all, The Guild is a great place to tuck in to unique creations, & you’ll appreciate this place even more if you are someone who enjoys alcoholic beverages.

Aside from the plethora of beers they have on tap, they also have Gin & Tonic, & Highball Whiskey on tap. These are very popular; the Guildhouse G&T & Guildhouse Highball both go for $16.00++ a pop. & they also make a pretty mean Negroni..

Thanks Danielle & The Guild for the hospitality, & Damian for the invite! ๐Ÿ’•
